The third match of the season saw Sandbach United face Stockport Georgians at Hind Heath Road. Following two consecutive losses in previous league matches, the Ramblers were desperate to pick up points against Stockport Georgians.
A suspension for Jordan Stafford saw a change of captaincy, with Thomas Morris wearing the captain’s armband for the home fixture. Bach also listed some unfamiliar faces on the team sheet, with Venancio Monteiro and George Kattah starting on the bench.
Manager, Declan Swan mentioned the significance of having Jordan Stafford, as he stated, “A suspension to captain Jordan Stafford which is not helpful, but will certainly not affect the teams desire to get three points.”
Sandbach started the game brilliantly, by not giving their opponents time on the ball and building up play well. Several early opportunities came from the wings, with chances coming from Kieran Alley and Oliver McDonough.
However, after a quick and unexpected break from the visitors, Dimeji Willan denies Stockport the lead with a pivotal save after a forceful strike from striker, Adam Dahou.
Up until the half-time whistle, the hosts resumed to dominate but couldn’t take the lead. Multiple chances came from winger, Oliver McDonough, whose ability to beat defenders and cut inside was excellent.
Just five minutes into the second half, Kieran Alley took the lead for Sandbach. Alley pounced on a loose pass in a dangerous position and slotted the ball into the back of the net to put the Ramblers in front.
In the 67th minute, Sam Marshall equalised for the Greater Manchester side. He played a looping ball into the box which rapidly curled over Dimeji Willan to reach the side-netting.
With only ten minutes left to play, both sides were committing players forward in attempt to score a significant winning goal. Whilst the Georgians were getting back into the game, Bach still looked strong and hungry for a winning goal.
In the 88th minute, Kieran Alley scored once again, late on into the match. Substitute, Venancio Monteiro laid the ball off perfectly for Alley, who buries his close-range shot to put Sandbach United ahead.
However, Harry Lynn snatched an equaliser in the 90+4th minute. A threatening cross was put into the box, which met Harry Lynn, who did not fail to score a critical goal to pick up a point.
Although Sandbach played well, they were unsuccessful in holding onto their lead after a supposed winning goal in the 88th minute. Stockport Georgians did well to not concede in the first half, and to comeback from 2-1 down with just a few minutes remaining.
Sandbach now look to get their first win of the season against Maine Road on Saturday, at Hind Head Road.
